ABOUT US
We are Great Indonesia Internet Foundation
In 1996, when we first talked about connectivity and did the work to define the digital divide, there were only thousands of people on the Internet in Indonesia. Currently, almost 80% of Indonesia's population, hundreds of millions of them, depend on their daily activity on internet access.
The Internet, as the driver of the third industrial revolution, is now so firmly embedded in our daily lives. Almost everything people do, from daily shopping, medical care, educational classes, paying taxes, travelling, has been facilitated by online products and internet-based services.
The Internet is the most transformative technology. It is technology that has reached more people faster than any technology in history. We believe internet access does more than just share new ideas, fight injustice, and create new jobs. The Internet also provides life-saving information.
Therefore, the internet belongs to everyone. It must be accessible by everyone. But access to the internet is still divided — and inequality is growing. The official statistics show that tens of millions of people living in tens of thousands of villages don’t have proper internet, whether they are still total blank-spots or only have 2G networks. Geographic location and population density inhibit Internet penetration.
The Internet is a collaborative effort. Nothing happens in the Internet industry without a large number of people putting their best effort into the tasks. So, we call on leaders of industries and communities to make universal internet access a reality.
We need national industry leaders to commit to our ambitious plans to connect the rest of the Indonesia population by 2025, to provide affordable access, and to ensure that they have the skills, education and literacy to use the Internet.

New Normal, New Plan
Covid 19 was a game-changer on the internet penetration. It has produced new political will to reduce inequality in the global digital economy
Anticipating an exponential rise of the needs in bandwidth exploitation, a group of internet stakeholder is activating grand strategies for establishing an equitable digital economy. Inthis framework, new infrastructure development approaches would contribute to internet economy development for every citizens in Indonesia.
